Detox Day 19 (JD:5): Welcome back

Bridget Jones’s Update of Day 19: BMI: 24.7 (-0.2) Funny, the day I ate more I lost more. Just interesting…  Activity Level: Back to yoga. Goodness I love yoga. You start off in a heated room, you stretch and push your body and end meditating. You enter the day feeling fabulous. Really, what’s not to love? Monday I start to incorporate workout. Meditation: See the yoga brief in Activity Level. Brief Observations: The freakin’ shivers are back. I really do feel like some sort of heroin addict going through a deep withdrawal.

First off, let me apologize for missing a day. Computer issues at play. Glad to be back and blogging. So thanks for the patience.

Now there is Nothing like waking a realizing not only do you free better and can work out, but you also have lost some significant weight.

All told, thus far I’ve lost something in the realm of 12 lbs. That’s pretty sweet.

But the best is not feeling like an 80 year old grandmother hobbling around because of a bum back. And with back problems you have to tack on a few days or a week or two, because though you may feel fine, one false move like picking up one of your kids and boom! You’re in pain. And it’s usually worse.

I’ve learned the hard way. Slow and easy. Moderation in all things- from diet to working out really is the best way.

So I’m a little slow. Or a late bloomer.

So back to yoga I went.

The kind I’ve been practicing is hot Power Yoga. You sweat up a storm, and after it all, I head in to the bracing winter weather. Sounds not that great, but I feel fantastic. It works you out (and you will feel it, believe me,) improves posture & balance (good for any sport/ or life,) and calms your mind. Paired with a regular weight-training, and a sport (like tennis) you get into killer physical shape. One of the best shapes of my life (post- College Volleyball) I was doing yoga, Pilate’s and tennis.

I had the ass of death.

(Totally true.)

Getting older is a fact. I hate it, because I, like George Bernard Shaw, feel that “youth is wasted on the young.”

As we get older we have to find things that fit into our lifestyle. Whether it’s using a Wii
(with Wii Fit Plus or EA Sports Active,) carving out an hour of time to hit the gym or a Pilate’s class you have to try, or just walking the dog for an hour in the morning. It’s also a great time to turn off the phone and just “be.”

In the years I’ve stopped working out, I’ve noticed a huge deficit in both agility and balance. Those two play major roles in our day to day life.

Plus, exercise stomps out stress, which, as we all know, is a constant bitch of a companion nowadays.

Try to sweat. Start small. Take a class (Zumba is a good one) but do something.

Let me know what you’re doing currently, I’m always ready to try something new. I’ll report back here.

And just because I couldn’t help but hum this while doing this blog, a little “Welcome Back”
